Kantara
Kantara is getting a lot of well deserved praise. It is rare that movies with such good writing get made in India. In that, I wanted to note down some points:
- The middle part of the movie has obviously been an afterthought. It looks like the makers of the movie were afraid to build-up the government official as a mock villain, afraid of wandering too much off-the-road from a misguided non-hero. This effects their landing. They also don’t know what to do with the heroine.
- The movie very smartly gives complete room to the skeptics and realists.
Ultimately, it is a movie that respectfully presents the customs and rituals of a society. It is a non-foreign looks at the existing social structure and hence it is such a breath of fresh air. This along with Kashmir Files have already dared to open a new frontier and I hope we get to see more of it.
